(10) Encouragements et oppositions
Hermann Weidemann, Ackrill, Paul Gohlke
(11) This a short letter to German scholars, indicating that I was in contact with Hermann Weidemann, with whom I am on good terms. In the rendering of the Aristotelian indeterminate propositions of On interpretation, chapter 7, I advise him to follow the German Paul Gohlke, not the Englishman Ackrill. The problem raised by the unquantified propositions of Aristotle is not to be despised by scholars as if it were a trifle. A good interpretation of the Aristotelian indeterminates induces a sort of chain reaction resulting in the replacement of the traditional logical square by the hexagon of Robert Blanché, described in Structures intellectuelles (1966). The logical hexagon renders more intelligible the relation between natural language and logic. Probably, it helps to solve the main problem of modal logic, I mean, that of strict implication.
